It was more than 20 years ago when the idea of a Florida Statewide Autism Resource Center was formed. This weekend marked the 20th Anniversary Celebration Conference of that unique and progressive vision. The Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD) was created and flourishes through the collaboration of so many dedicated and energetic parents and professionals. Today, CARD is known as ‘Florida’s First Choice for Autism Support’. What is CARD? CARD is a comprehensive outreach and support program serving people with autism and related disabilities, their families, and the professionals who work with them. CARD seeks to provide support and assistance with the goal of optimizing the potential of people with autism, dual sensory impairment, and related disabilities. Making libraries inclusive for EVERYONE! Here are some great suggestions for helping libraries welcome everyone. Library visits are great experiences to help build literacy skills, vocabulary, and just to enjoy topics of interest. They are great for rainy or super cold days. Hope you get to enjoy your local library this winter and always.

PRACTICE FIRE SAFETY- watch what you heat. It’s Fire Prevention Week 2012– October 7-October 15, 2012. There are many Fire Prevention Week campaign resources available through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Additionally, we learned that the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has incredible safety information for EVERYONE, All the time. In exploring NFPA’s website, we saw the dedication in protecting ALL children and adults from the many dangers of fire. The Safety Signals Project is another great fire prevention resource funded by Autism Speaks. We are not super worriers by nature, but thought it is would be great time to update some our fire safety supports.
