AAC friends, we are back with another AAC Link Up in Spanish. If you have materials or videos in Spanish that you would like others to know about, we’d love to have you add that information below. Also, please share this with anyone who might be interested in contributing to or using the materials that get added to these posts. But before we get to that, we want to continue sharing AAC experiences with families in different Spanish-speaking countries, to help us create ties and form AAC communities in Spanish, to learn from each other. From Guatemala, we share with Isabel Orellana, who tells us her personal story with AAC and how she has contributed to making this field known in her country and offering AAC alternatives to many children, families, and professionals. “I’m the mother of 9-year-old Eddyto. Eddyto has complex communication needs and has been using Proloquo2Go since... [Read More...]

[Read More...]

We’ve been on a mission to add our support to the population of AAC users from Spanish-speaking communities, so when AAC SLP Deanna Wagner shared this piece she wrote on strengthening her Spanish language skills, we knew we wanted to share it. Here in the US, where speaking a second language isn’t as highly valued as it should be, many professionals struggle to become confident in languages other than English. In this post, Deanna shares her tips for strengthening her Spanish so that she can better serve the families she supports. In addition, she provides a helpful table of AAC apps that are available in Spanish that you won’t want to miss. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Building Spanish Language Skills As an AT professional who supports families who speak Spanish at home, I am always looking for ways to brush up on my AAC vocabulary and Spanish terminology. I am not a native... [Read More...]

AAC friends, we are back with our second AAC Link Up in Spanish. If you have materials or videos in Spanish that you would like others to know about, we’d love to have you add that information below. Also, please share this with anyone who might be interested in contributing to or using the materials that get added to these posts. And if this is of interest to you, mark your calendars to check back in with us on the first Friday of every month for PráctiCAAmente Conectados Con Links. Today, we are celebrating AAC Awareness Month with a wonderful resource, our AAC 101 Flipbook, which we first wrote about here.. The flipbook is full of information on key strategies for supporting AAC users. Diana Angeles translated it into Spanish as part of the Hablando PráctiCAAmente project. Claudia Marimón helped with the editing and Deanna Wagner reviewed the final product.... [Read More...]

We couldn’t be more excited that the world’s AAC experts will be coming together in Mexico next summer for the ISAAC 2020 Conference. In recognition of this wonderful event, we’re excited to embark on a new project here at PrAACtical AAC. We hope that you will support this initiative and help us get this new project off the ground. PrAACtical AAC en Español is our effort at supporting the Spanish-speaking community and we are thrilled that this will be headed up by AAC specialist and veteran SLP, Deanna Wagner. Many of you are familiar with Deanna through her work in Arizona, her presentations around the world, her articles on the wonderful blog AAC Girls, and her guest posts on these pages (like her AACtual Therapy posts here and here, and videos such as this one). Over the next few months, she will be coordinating efforts to build a collection of Spanish-language... [Read More...]

It is so exciting to see how AAC is being implemented around the world. In this week’s video, we travel to Guatemala to feature the work of Isabel Orellana de Chang. The video is in Spanish, but you can use the closed caption buttons at the bottom of the video to turn on English subtitles. This is a great resource to share with our Spanish-speaking friends. Enjoy!
