Tabi Wohleber-Jones’ ‘Model as a MASTER PAL’ materials for AAC partner training has a devoted fan base, and with good reason. The content is well-developed and thoughtfully assembled into a training series. In previous posts, we’ve shared videos that other AAC content creators developed based on Tabi’s work. Today, we return to hear more from AAC specialists Jeanna Antrim and Maggie Judson, who combine some of the original modules and add their ideas to this fine material. We’re big fans of Tabi Jones-Wohleber’s Model as a MASTER PAL series, so when we discovered video presentations using this material we knew we had to share it here. Previously, we posted a set of videos by Amanda Sheriff which covered MASTER PAL Modules (see that here). In today’s post, we’re featuring two AAC specialists familiar to PrAACtical AAC readers, Jeanna Antrim and Maggie Judson. These wonderful videos are based on Tabi’s series and provide lots of prAACtical information. We’ve heard from many of you about the wonderful training resources that Tabi Jones-Wohleber created for the Model as a MASTER PAL series so when we came across Amanda Scheriff’s set of videos using these materials, we knew that you’d enjoy. Amanda created 6 videos that you should take a look at if you’re interested in helping parents and others gain a better understanding of AAC supports. Thanks to all who reached out to express appreciation for Tabi Jones-Wohleber’s training resources in the MASTER PAL series. Many of you have already used the slides, video links, handouts, and discussion points that were shared over the past few months, and others have plans to do so. In this final post, Tabi shares some of the ‘lessons learned’ in creating and utilizing these materials. This module should take 30-40 minutes to present. The right types of prompts delivered at the right time in the right amount can be enormously powerful in supporting AAC learners. On the other hand, the wrong type of prompt or prompts that offer too much or too little help can impede learning, self-confidence, and cause other problems as well. In today’s continuation of the Model as a MASTER PAL Training Series, Tabi Jones-Wohleber addresses issues related to prompting. We continue our AAC partner training series, authored by SLP Tabi Jones-Wohleber, with a 60-minute session on presuming potential. In addition to her work with the AT Team for Frederick County Public Schools in Maryland, Tabi serves young children and their families at West Virginia Birth to Three programs. Our AAC Training Series continues today and we remain extremely appreciative that West Virginia based SLP Tabi Jones-Wohleber allows us to share these presentation materials. Today’s training materials center on a topic that will help AAC interventionists strengthen their relationships with AAC learners and provide important language learning opportunities at the same time. This module, Response NOT Required, is all about interactions that engage our learners and invite them into the conversation. Let’s be honest: The most advanced AAC device in the world isn’t going to be very helpful unless it’s well-implemented. That’s why it is so important that communication partners, particularly those who spend lots of time with people use AAC, get training on ways to support the AAC learner.
