Happy February, CAA friends! Each month, we share a post from Claudia Marimón, which features AAC work in Spanish-speaking countries, and offer translations of materials that can help families and service providers. In today’s post, Claudia invites us to extend the celebration of International Book Day with a relevant AAC resource.

Iniciamos mayo recordando que recientemente se celebró el Día Internacional del Libro, una oportunidad para valorar los libros como un recurso fundamental para el aprendizaje y para compartir conocimiento.

En este contexto, quiero acercar a la comunidad hispanohablante algunos libros clave de Comunicación Aumentativa y Alternativa (CAA) disponibles en español. Contar con materiales accesibles en nuestro idioma es esencial para ampliar el conocimiento, fortalecer la formación y mejorar las prácticas en nuestros contextos.

Uno de los textos más recientes y relevantes es Comunicación aumentativa y alternativa para niños, adolescentes y adultos con trastornos del desarrollo de Stephen von Tetzchner, Harald Martinsen y Kristine Stadskleiv. Esta obra se ha consolidado como un referente por ofrecer una mirada integral de la CAA, abordando los fundamentos teóricos, la evaluación, la intervención y el desarrollo del lenguaje en personas con necesidades complejas de comunicación, todo desde un enfoque basado en evidencia.

Hoy en día, existe una creciente variedad de publicaciones que combinan teoría y práctica para apoyar a personas con dificultades en la comunicación. Además, contamos con textos clásicos que, aunque fueron publicados hace años, hoy están disponibles en español gracias al trabajo de organizaciones como ISAAC, permitiendo que estos conocimientos lleguen a más profesionales, docentes y familias.

Los invito a conocer y explorar estos recursos, que sin duda contribuyen a fortalecer prácticas más inclusivas, informadas y contextualizadas en el ámbito de la CAA.

We’re starting May by reflecting on the recent celebration of International Book Day, a great opportunity to recognize books as a fundamental resource for learning and for sharing knowledge.

In this context, I would like to share with the Spanish-speaking community some key books on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) that are available in Spanish. Having accessible materials in our own language is essential to expand knowledge, strengthen professional training, and improve practices within our contexts.

One of the most recent and relevant texts is Augmentative and Alternative Communication for Children, Adolescents and Adults with Developmental Disorders by Stephen von Tetzchner, Harald Martinsen, and Kristine Stadskleiv. This work has become a key reference as it provides a comprehensive view of AAC, addressing theoretical foundations, assessment, intervention, and language development in individuals with complex communication needs, all from an evidence-based perspective.

Today, there is a growing range of publications that combine theory and practice to support individuals with communication difficulties. In addition, we also have access to classic texts that, although published years ago, are now available in Spanish thanks to translation efforts by organizations such as ISAAC, allowing this knowledge to reach more professionals, educators, and families.

I invite you to explore these resources, which undoubtedly contribute to strengthening more inclusive, informed, and contextually relevant practices in the field of AAC.
