Each month we feature a Spanish version of our AAC Link Up, CAA con Links. If you have AAC-related announcements, materials, or videos in Spanish that you would like others to know about, we’d love to have you add that information below. Also, please share this with anyone who might be interested in contributing to or using the materials that get added to these posts. You’ll find the place to add that information at the very bottom of this post.
Organized by Claudia Marimón, these monthly posts also feature AAC work being done in Spanish-speaking countries and offer translations of material that can help families and service providers. In today’s post, Claudia shares some wonderful stories that feature AAC users as the main characters. Don’t miss her wonderful videos of AAC in AACtion.

Damos la bienvenida a febrero, compartiendo la experiencia de leer libros donde los protagonistas son personas que usan CAA.
Durante el mes de Enero en nuestro grupo compartimos la lectura del libro “La Voz de Mia” de María Melero, en esa oportunidad los niños estuvieron muy atentos, escuchando, mirando y expresando algunas palabras a través de sus dispositivos generadores de voz, que en su mayoría eran igual a de la protagonista. Una linda historia de una niña que por primera vez tiene una voz. Haciéndolos recordar también cuando ellos tuvieron su voz, Carolina, mamá de Samuel nos comparte que “Este libro nos llevó a un viaje por el tiempo y recordar cuando la voz de Sami llegó a casa”

También hemos compartido la Historia de “Neil y la Aventura con el Delfín”, de Isabel Orellana donde Samuel no solo se identifica a si mismo con el protagonista, sino que reconoce a su amigo Eddy en la historia y disfruta también de sus divertidas ideas. Carolina comenta “Sami disfruta tanto este libro, sabe que es de su amigo Eddy y se identifica con su iPad, su forma de comunicarse, las palabras que dice, se identifica con su mamá como compañera de comunicación”

En su gran biblioteca Samuel tiene un libro que le regaló su autora en ISAAC en Cancún, el que a pesar de no estar en español le hace disfrutar la comunicación multimodal “I Talk in Different Ways” de Amanda Hartmann. Carolina nos recuerda “El libro de Amanda lo disfruta muchísimo también, nos recuerda lo importante de validar todas las formas en las que Sami se puede comunicar y eso le emociona”

We welcome February, sharing the experience of reading books where the protagonists are people who use AAC.
During January in our group we shared the reading of the book “La Voz de Mia” by María Melero, on that occasion the children were very attentive, listening, looking and expressing some words through their voice generating devices, which in Most of them were the same as the protagonist. A beautiful story of a girl who for the first time has a voice. Also making them remember when they had their voice, Carolina, Samuel’s mother shares with us that “This book took us on a journey through time and remember when Sami’s voice came home”

We have also shared the Story of “Neil and the Adventure with the Dolphin”, by Isabel Orellana where Samuel not only identifies himself with the protagonist, but also recognizes his friend Eddy in the story and also enjoys his fun ideas. Carolina comments “Sami enjoys this book so much, she knows it is from her friend Eddy and she identifies with her iPad, her way of communicating, the words she says, she identifies with her mother as a communication partner.”

In his large library, Samuel has a book that the author gave him at ISAAC in Cancun, which makes him enjoy the multimodal communication, “I Talk in Different Ways” by Amanda Hartmann. Carolina reminds us “Amanda’s book is also very enjoyable, it reminds us of the importance of validating all the ways in which Sami can communicate and that excites him.”
