One of the most valuable things that AAC interventionists can do is to gain the perspective of people who use AAC on a day-to-day basis. In today’s featured video, AAC user Hannah Foley shares her experiences and perspectives on learning to use AAC. Enjoy! Many thanks to Hannah and PRC-Saltillo for this insightful video. Dan O’Connor and Bradley Heaven, authors of the website All Access Life, collaborated on this video demonstrating Brad’s use of AAC and how that has changed over time. Watch as they show how using different AAC tools impacts the rate of communication and take a look at how their conversation unfolds when they are both using eye tracking. Enjoy! Since 1992, a highlight of the ISAAC Biennial Conferences has been the presentation of the Outstanding Consumer Lecture Award. This award is given to a person who uses AAC to share their talents, perspectives, and experiences. In this week’s featured video, we hear from the most recent awardee, Mke Ninces, on Assumptions, Attitudes, and Adventures. Congratulations to Ms. Ninces on receiving the 14th ISAAC Outstanding Consumer Lecture Award, and thank you to ISAAC for hosting and sharing this lecture. There is no better time that AAC Awareness Month to see and hear directly from people who use AAC. A lot of focus is on children and education, but this is a great reminder that no one is too old or too anything to learn to improve their communication skills. Thanks to Deanna Wagner, (who has done some terrific posts for us here, here, and here), and her clients at the Valley of the Sun School and Habilitation Center for making this video and sharing it with the rest of us.
