PrAACticamente Conectados: Proyecto ComuniCAAdos

On the first Friday of each month, we publish a post in Spanish by guest author Claudia Marimón to highlight AAC work being done in Spanish-speaking countries and offer translations of material that can help families and service providers. In this month’s post, Claudia introduces us to an important new project, ComuniCAAdos. Please support this effort if you can.

Iniciamos el mes de Junio compartiendo una iniciativa innovadora y profundamente significativa para la comunidad hispanohablante de personas que usan Comunicación Aumentativa y Alternativa: el proyecto ComuniCAAdos.

ComuniCAAdos no es solo una propuesta más; es un espacio único, creado por y para personas que utilizan sistemas de CAA, con el objetivo de construir una comunidad virtual donde puedan conocerse, compartir, expresarse y fortalecer su identidad comunicativa. Surge desde las voces de quienes, muchas veces, no han tenido oportunidades reales de conexión con otras personas que se comunican como ellas.

Lo más valioso de este proyecto es que está liderado por personas que usan CAA, Iván Davidovich de Argentina  y Robinson Díaz de Chile, miembros de ISAAC español. Su invitación está abierta para usuarios de CAA y sus familias que quieran sumarse a este grupo, que muy pronto comenzará a reunirse de forma online. Una comunidad donde todos tienen algo que decir, y donde cada voz importa.”

ComuniCAAdos es un proyecto liderado por personas que usamos sistemas de Comunicación Aumentativa y Alternativa (CAA) en países de habla hispana. Nuestro objetivo es crear una comunidad virtual segura, accesible e inclusiva, donde podamos:

• Conocernos
• Compartir intereses
• Construir amistades y redes de apoyo

¡Las actividades se diseñan según los intereses del grupo! Incluyen juegos, conversaciones temáticas, invitados especiales y recursos gratuitos.

¿Por qué sumarse?

• Porque tenemos mucho que decir y queremos ser escuchados.
• Porque queremos encontrarnos con otras personas que se comunican como nosotros.
• Porque juntos aprendemos, crecemos y nos divertimos.

¿Quiénes pueden participar?

Personas que usan CAA (con o sin apoyo), de cualquier país de habla hispana. También invitamos a familias, profesionales o instituciones a difundir esta invitación.

We start the month of June by sharing an innovative and deeply meaningful initiative for the Spanish-speaking community of people who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC): the ComuniCAAdos project.

ComuniCAAdos is not just another proposal; it is a unique space, created by and for people who use AAC systems, with the goal of building a virtual community where they can meet, share, express themselves, and strengthen their communicative identity. It emerges from the voices of those who, many times, have not had real opportunities to connect with others who communicate like them.

The most valuable aspect of this project is that it is led by AAC users Iván Davidovich from Argentina and Robinson Díaz from Chile, both members of ISAAC español Chapter. Their invitation is open to AAC users and their families who want to join this group, which will soon begin meeting online. A community where everyone has something to say — and where every voice matters.

We asked them directly: What is ComuniCAAdos?

ComuniCAAdos is a project led by people who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems in Spanish-speaking countries. Our goal is to create a safe, accessible, and inclusive virtual community where we can:

• Meet each other
• Share interests
• Build friendships and support networks

🧩 Activities are designed based on the group’s interests! They include games, themed conversations, special guests, and free resources.

Why join?

• Because we have a lot to say and we want to be heard.
• Because we want to meet others who communicate like us.
• Because together we learn, grow, and have fun.

Who can participate?

People who use AAC (with or without support) from any Spanish-speaking country. We also invite families, professionals, or institutions to help spread the word.
